The Graphic Design degree at Canterbury Christ Church University is structured to develop creative, technical, and professional expertise through a progression of studio-based learning and industry engagement. In Year 1, students are introduced to the fundamentals of graphic design through core modules like Welcome to the Studio and Graphic Design Tools, where they learn to navigate industry-standard software and design principles. The Print Studio module emphasizes hands-on techniques and traditional processes, while Typography explores the visual language of text. Student Success Modules support academic transition and skill development, ensuring students build a solid foundation in both practical and conceptual areas of design.In Year 2, the course deepens students’ engagement with the professional world. Industry, Careers and Enterprise focuses on employability, encouraging students to explore pathways within the creative industries. Working in the Studio builds upon the collaborative and practical aspects of design through real-world briefs and live projects. Designing the Campaign allows students to create and manage design projects from concept to delivery, developing creative thinking, communication, and strategic design skills. Interdisciplinary modules broaden perspectives, enabling students to collaborate across creative disciplines and experiment with new methods and media.Year 3 is centered on professional readiness and creative independence. Leading the Studio and Exploratory Studio modules encourage students to refine their personal design approach and lead projects with greater autonomy. Ready for a Career in Graphics helps students to prepare for employment or freelance work by developing professional portfolios and industry-facing materials. The Creative Arts and Industries Project provides an opportunity for students to undertake an ambitious final project, demonstrating their skills, vision, and creative identity. Across all three years, the course blends hands-on learning, academic study, and industry insight, ensuring graduates are well-equipped to thrive in diverse graphic design roles.
