COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Film Production degree is structured over three years to provide students with a balance of practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and professional development within the film and television industry. In Year 1, students establish a strong foundation through modules such as Developing Filmmaking Practice, Narrative Film, Post-Production Practice, and the Filmmaking Project, supported by Student Success modules. These modules introduce essential filmmaking techniques, storytelling, editing, and production processes, enabling students to produce their own films and develop a professional portfolio. Year 2 focuses on applied skills, industry engagement, and creative development through Careers, Industry and Enterprise, Specialist Film Skills, Creative Power of Film, and Interdisciplinary modules. Students gain hands-on experience in specialised areas such as cinematography, directing, sound design, and advanced post-production, while developing an understanding of industry standards and collaborative working practices. In Year 3, students undertake advanced projects and independent study with modules including Pre-Production for Creative Arts and Industries Project, Specialist Individual Craft, Film Aesthetics, Film Futures, and the Creative Arts and Industries Project. This final year emphasises advanced technical skills, critical analysis, creative experimentation, and professional practice. Graduates are equipped to enter careers in filmmaking, television production, digital media, post-production, or related creative industries, with the skills, confidence, and portfolio necessary to succeed in a competitive and evolving sector.
