COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Data Science program combines core and optional modules to develop strong analytical, technical and research skills for data-driven careers. The Project module forms a major component of the course, enabling students to undertake an in-depth investigation into a data science topic, often linked to industry, and to develop advanced research, problem-solving and critical analysis skills. Core modules include Data Science, which covers statistical analysis, machine learning, graph analysis and parallel programming with practical applications such as expert and recommender systems. Information Systems and Database Design explores database-driven technologies including data warehousing, mining, business intelligence and cloud databases, highlighting their role in scalable and efficient decision-making. Programming for Data Science develops practical skills in Python and R, covering data analysis, model development, deployment and ethical data handling. Big Data Processing and Data Visualisation focuses on managing and interpreting large datasets using computational, statistical and visual techniques. Optional modules allow specialisation in areas such as cloud security, natural language processing, applied artificial intelligence and machine learning, enabling students to tailor their learning to specific interests. Together, these modules provide a comprehensive and flexible education, preparing graduates to apply data science techniques effectively across business, technology and research contexts.
