COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Computer Science program offers a balanced structure of core and optional modules designed to develop strong theoretical foundations alongside practical, industry-relevant skills. The Computer Science Overview module explores how software engineering practice is underpinned by core computer science principles, covering topics such as algorithms, coding, machine learning, databases, information security and the interaction between hardware and software systems. Data Science introduces key concepts in statistical analysis, machine learning and large-scale data processing, with practical applications including expert and recommender systems. The Project module forms a major part of the program, requiring students to undertake an independent, in-depth investigation of a cyber security or computing-related topic, often in collaboration with industry, and to produce a formal proposal and final report. Optional modules allow students to specialise in areas such as expert and fuzzy systems, real-time safety-critical systems, natural language processing, robotics, machine learning and intelligent agents. Additional options in cyber security assurance and risk management develop understanding of organisational security strategies, risk analysis and business continuity planning. Together, these modules provide flexibility, technical depth and applied experience, preparing graduates for advanced professional roles or further research in computer science and related fields.
