COURSE CURRICULUM

The core modules of the MSc Computer Science (Conversion) program are designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in computing while developing practical, industry-relevant skills. Computer Science: An Overview introduces fundamental principles such as algorithms, data structures, computation theory and the interaction between hardware and software, showing how these concepts underpin areas like machine learning, databases and information security. Network Security Systems focuses on protecting modern networks, developing hands-on skills in designing security infrastructures, identifying threats and applying technologies to ensure data confidentiality, integrity and availability. Information Systems and Database Design explores how databases support real-world applications and organisational processes across sectors such as business and healthcare. Artificial Intelligence, Biometrics and Smart Systems examines the role of AI in intelligent and secure systems, introducing core concepts including machine learning, probabilistic reasoning and intelligent decision-making. Software Quality Assurance and Engineering develops understanding of structured, team-based software development, emphasising quality, testing and project management across the software lifecycle. Programming for Business builds practical skills in creating secure, data-driven web applications using industry-standard tools and frameworks. Research Methods prepares students to design and conduct applied research, while the Extended Project enables in-depth investigation of a chosen computing topic.
