COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport Performance Science MSc at Brunel University provides students with comprehensive training to enhance elite athlete performance across a variety of sporting contexts. The core Sports Performance Science module examines the determinants of high-level performance, integrating biomechanical and physiological applications to develop tailored training programs, competition strategies, and recovery methods. The Assessment of Human Performance module equips students with practical skills to conduct laboratory and field-based testing, utilising advanced equipment to profile athletes, track biomarkers, and assess body composition. Research Methods and Data Analysis prepares students to design, conduct, and critically evaluate quantitative and qualitative research in performance sport, supporting the completion of the dissertation, which enables independent, in-depth investigation of a chosen topic and application of theoretical principles. Optional modules allow students to explore the psychology of sports performance, developing the ability to critically appraise and apply theories to practical settings, and to examine mental health and wellbeing in elite athletes, focusing on the impact of environmental and support factors on performance. A Professional Development module provides opportunities to pursue individual areas of interest, develop personal and professional skills, and gain practical experience through placements or projects. The program combines theory, applied practice, research skills, and professional development to prepare graduates for careers in elite sport, coaching, performance analysis, or applied research.
