COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physical Activity and Exercise for Health MSc includes compulsory modules designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of physical activity, exercise, and their role in public health. The Physical Activity Behaviour Change and Public Health module develops students’ critical understanding of how research evidence informs the design and implementation of public health campaigns, while teaching the application of behaviour change theory to address inactivity across diverse populations at local, national, and international levels. The Physical Activity and Exercise for Clinical and Special Populations module equips students with interdisciplinary knowledge and skills to assess, prevent, and manage health conditions such as Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, mental ill-health, and issues affecting older adults or children with disabilities. Exercise Science: Theoretical Basis and Laboratory Skills offers a critical understanding of the biological and mechanical determinants of movement and exercise function, alongside practical laboratory techniques to assess physical performance. The Research Methods and Data Analysis module develops competence in quantitative and qualitative research methods, preparing students to design and critically evaluate research for their dissertation. The Dissertation module provides the opportunity to undertake an extended independent project, demonstrating mastery of theoretical principles, research skills, and the application of scientific methods to a chosen topic, thereby consolidating knowledge across the disciplines covered in the course.
