COURSE CURRICULUM

The compulsory modules within this program provide a comprehensive and advanced grounding in key areas of modern biomedical science and research practice. Molecular Genetics explores chromosome and genome biology, examining somatic and inherited DNA mutations and their roles in human disease and ageing. Molecular Medicine introduces core concepts from genetics, cell biology, immunology, microbiology, and cancer research, while also covering model organisms and in vitro experimental systems commonly used in the field. The Research Skills module equips students with essential knowledge of research design, ethical considerations, and laboratory techniques, enabling them to develop strong practical and analytical abilities. Scientific Communication focuses on effective dissemination of scientific knowledge, teaching students a range of writing styles for professional, academic, public, and digital platforms, alongside training in literature searching, critical paper analysis, and engagement with scientific seminars. Finally, the Dissertation Research Project allows students to apply their learning through an independent and detailed investigation into a specialist topic of their choice, developing skills in project planning, experimental design, data analysis, and academic reporting. Collectively, these modules aim to produce graduates who are scientifically skilled, research-ready, and capable of contributing to current and emerging challenges in biomedical science.
