COURSE CURRICULUM

The Infection and Antimicrobial Discovery MSc at Brunel University London includes a series of core modules designed to provide comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in infectious disease research. The Infection and Antimicrobial Discovery module explores immune responses to viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites, covering vaccination strategies, antimicrobial drug development, and emerging infectious threats, while providing a foundation for research into host-pathogen interactions and immunotherapeutics. Molecular Medicine introduces key concepts in genetics, cell biology, immunology, microbiology, and disease mechanisms, alongside the use of model organisms and in vitro systems in biomedical research. Research Skills equips students with the framework for conducting scientific research, including experimental techniques, ethical considerations, and hands-on laboratory experience. Scientific Communication focuses on effective communication of research through scientific writing, social media, science blogging, public engagement, and literature analysis, while promoting attendance at seminars to develop professional communication skills. The Dissertation Research Project enables students to undertake an independent, in-depth research study on a topic aligned with the program, applying theoretical knowledge and practical skills to generate original findings. Collectively, these modules prepare graduates to conduct advanced research, critically evaluate scientific literature, communicate findings effectively, and contribute to the development of innovative solutions in infectious disease management, antimicrobial discovery, and public health.
