COURSE CURRICULUM

The Electric Vehicle Systems MSc offers a comprehensive curriculum covering both core and optional modules to equip students with advanced technical knowledge and practical skills in electric vehicle technologies. Core modules include Advanced Vehicular Systems Technology, which provides up-to-date knowledge of vehicular technology, inter- and intra-vehicle communications, and battery management, along with relevant technical standards. Power Electronics and Drives focuses on the design and analysis of advanced power electronic circuits and their application in electric vehicle machines and drives. Energy Economics and Power Markets teaches students to critically assess electricity market models, evaluate trading strategies, and understand environmental impacts of energy supply. Smart Grid Operation and Management develops skills in evaluating and managing sustainable electrical power systems, while Engineering Ethics and Sustainability addresses legal, social, ethical, and environmental considerations in engineering practice. The Project and Dissertation module allows students to undertake an in-depth individual investigation, developing research, analysis, and presentation skills. Optional modules provide opportunities to specialise further, including Applied Sensors Instrumentation and Control, Communication Network Technologies, Communication Networks Security, Design for Internet of Things, and Embedded DSP and FPGA Systems. These modules cover advanced sensor and control systems, secure communication networks, IoT technologies, and real-time signal processing, enabling students to acquire a broad and in-depth understanding of the technical, analytical, and practical aspects required for careers in electric vehicle systems, smart energy, and connected mobility technologies.
