COURSE CURRICULUM

The compulsory modules on the Cancer Research MSc provide a comprehensive foundation in the biological, experimental, analytical and communication skills required for advanced scientific research. Cancer Biology offers detailed insight into the fundamental principles of cancer development, exploring genetic and epigenetic hallmarks, key signalling pathways and contemporary methods for diagnosis, prognosis and treatment. Molecular Medicine introduces core concepts in genetics, cell biology, immunology and microbiology, examining how these disciplines contribute to understanding disease mechanisms and therapeutic strategies, while also familiarising students with key laboratory models and experimental systems. Research Skills equips students with essential competencies in designing and conducting ethical scientific research, offering practical training in laboratory methods and the principles of data collection and analysis. The Scientific Communication module focuses on the development of clear and effective communication for scientific and public audiences, covering academic writing, social media, seminars and critical evaluation of research literature. The dissertation research project allows students to apply their knowledge by completing an independent, in-depth investigation on a specialist topic, developing originality, critical thinking and analytical skills.
