COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environmental Sciences MRes equips students with advanced research skills and practical expertise in environmental science through a combination of taught modules and an extended research project. The Environmental Tools and Methodologies module develops students’ understanding of a wide range of tools and methods used across different disciplines within environmental management, providing practical experience in laboratory, field, and desk-based approaches to identify, monitor, and manage environmental problems. The Research Planning and Communication Skills module focuses on enhancing students’ written and verbal communication abilities, guiding them through the process of writing a research proposal and presenting it effectively through posters and oral presentations to an academic audience. Central to the program is the Research Project in Environmental Sciences, which allows students to undertake a substantial, original investigation in a topic of their choice, developing in-depth understanding, research competence, and technical skills. This project encourages independent thinking, problem-solving, and the application of scientific methods to real-world environmental challenges. Throughout the course, students benefit from expert supervision and access to well-equipped research facilities, supporting cross-disciplinary work and fostering the ability to produce high-quality, evidence-based research. Overall, the program prepares students to contribute meaningfully to environmental research, policy, and management.
