COURSE CURRICULUM

The Dramatherapy MA at Brunel is a two-year program designed to provide students with advanced knowledge, practical skills, and professional experience in dramatherapy across health, community, and social care settings. In the first year, students study modules including Arts and Human Development, Anthropology and Aesthetics, and Arts in Health, which offer a deep understanding of human development, cultural context, and the therapeutic use of arts. Clinical Placement A enables students to apply dramatherapy techniques in real-world settings, focusing on collaboration, co-production, and reflection. Students also engage with Applied Research Design and Methods, developing the ability to critically evaluate and synthesise qualitative and quantitative research, alongside Dramatherapy Theory and Practice I, which builds competence in drama, theatre, and performance methods to facilitate therapeutic outcomes. In the second year, Clinical Placement B extends practical experience, emphasising assessment, intervention, and wellbeing across diverse contexts, while Dramatherapy Theory and Practice II focuses on evidence-based practice, brief and focused interventions, and critical analysis of therapeutic change. The Inter-professional Dramatherapy module develops skills for working safely and effectively with other professionals, communicating the role of dramatherapy clearly, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives. Overall, the program combines rigorous theory, applied practice, and clinical experience to prepare graduates for professional dramatherapy practice, equipping them to support diverse populations and complex health and community needs.
