COURSE CURRICULUM

The Wargaming and Resilience Planning MA program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in wargame design, analysis, and resilience planning. The Wargame Analysis and Research Methods module spans two terms, providing students with the ability to critically analyse the games they design and the data generated, while introducing core qualitative social science research methods to support rigorous academic inquiry. The Wargame Design and Delivery module offers hands-on experience in designing and facilitating wargames tailored to sponsor requirements, enabling students to reflect on practical successes and challenges. The Games Design: Mechanics and Context module further develops personal design practice, covering different game types, their mechanics, and applications for serious purposes. Military History and Strategic Thought from the Ancients to the Present situates wargaming within a historical and strategic framework, examining the evolution of war and military thought. The Performing Resilience module encourages students to explore connections between ideas, practices, and policies through case studies, fostering creative engagement with resilience. Finally, the Design Project allows students to integrate and demonstrate their skills by producing a wargame that meets professional standards, including justifying design choices, selecting appropriate data, and addressing sponsor requirements. This integrated approach ensures graduates are well-prepared for careers in wargaming, policy analysis, and resilience planning.
