COURSE CURRICULUM

The International Journalism MA includes a range of compulsory modules designed to build advanced professional skills for modern media environments. Core modules such as AI for Journalists, Campaigners and Activists explore how rapidly evolving AI tools are transforming newsroom practices, activism, and verification techniques, blending theory with hands-on workshops for identifying manipulated or AI-generated content. The Fake News, Images and Websites module provides both theoretical perspectives and practical training in debunking misinformation and conspiracy narratives, while Multi-platform Storytelling develops abilities in video, audio, photography, scriptwriting, page design, and digital publishing. News, Features and Reviews strengthens skills in interviewing, research, writing, and reporting across challenging subject areas, including crime and emergency services, with emphasis on online verification and global perspectives. Students complete either a Dissertation or an Extended Practical Project, demonstrating independent research or producing major journalistic work with ethical awareness. Optional modules allow specialisation in areas such as activism through media production, digital social movements, political and strategic communication, international organisations, media-bodies relations, political satire, and the role of digital cultures in shaping political engagement. Together, these modules prepare graduates for careers across print, broadcast, online, and cross-platform journalism.
