COURSE CURRICULUM

The Education MA program includes several core modules designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of educational theory, research, and practice. The Theory and Methodology of Educational Research module focuses on developing knowledge of philosophical and methodological approaches in education, exploring how theoretical perspectives shape research design, and critically evaluating existing research projects. Issues and Perspectives in Education encourages students to engage with contemporary debates and policy contexts, understand differing viewpoints, and contribute thoughtfully to discussions on current educational challenges. Comparative and International Education examines education systems, policies, and practices across global contexts, fostering an understanding of similarities, differences, and the impact of cultural and societal factors on learning. The Disciplines in Education module explores the foundational disciplines underpinning education, including philosophy, history, sociology, and psychology, and examines their significance for understanding educational practice and informing research. Central to the program is the dissertation, which represents the most substantial piece of independent work. Building on the knowledge and skills developed throughout the taught modules, the dissertation requires students to undertake rigorous research, critically engage with relevant literature, and produce a coherent, well-structured study that aligns with their chosen specialism. Collectively, these modules equip students with the theoretical insight, research competence, and critical thinking skills needed to contribute effectively to educational practice, policy, and scholarship.
