COURSE CURRICULUM

The Visual Effects and Motion Graphics BSc at Brunel is a comprehensive, hands-on program designed to develop technical expertise and creative skills for the digital media and entertainment industries. In the first year, students are introduced to motion design, professional practice, interactive media development, digital photography and video production, 3D CGI and VFX acquisition, and design communication, providing a strong foundation in both creative and technical disciplines. The second year builds on this knowledge with modules in applied media aesthetics, immersive mixed reality design, motion graphics, programming for the moving image, advanced 3D CGI and compositing, and 3D animation and motion graphics, allowing students to create sophisticated visual and interactive content. In the final year, students undertake a major visual effects and motion graphics project, gaining experience in planning, research, design, implementation, and evaluation of a professional-level project. They also study virtual production technologies and the professional context of working in the creative industries. Optional modules such as advanced 3D animation, artificial intelligence and games, and advanced graphics and motion design projects provide further opportunities to specialise and experiment with cutting-edge technologies and techniques. Across the course, students combine creative design, programming, and industry-standard tools, preparing them for careers in VFX, motion graphics, animation, and other creative digital fields.
