COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences BSc at Brunel provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the physiological, biomechanical, and psychological aspects of sport, health, and exercise. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in human anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, psychology, and physical activity, alongside academic and personal development skills, and explore pedagogy, policy, and social issues in sport and physical education. Year two develops practical and analytical skills through modules on biomechanics of human movement, research methods, physiology, psychology, and the application of sport science to coaching individuals, while also exploring physical activity and wellbeing across the life course. Students learn to evaluate and apply theory in real-world contexts, including performance analysis and coaching strategies. In the third year, students undertake a final-year project, conduct advanced research, and focus on professional development, employability, and critical analysis of contemporary issues in physical activity, health, and wellbeing. Optional modules allow for deeper study in areas such as advanced biomechanics, applied sport and exercise psychology, physiological limitations to performance, and team coaching. Across the program, students gain practical experience, analytical skills, and applied knowledge that prepare them for careers in sport science, coaching, health promotion, and related fields, while fostering critical thinking and interdisciplinary understanding.
