COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences BSc (Hons) in Physical Education, Coaching, and Social Issues at Brunel provides a comprehensive program for students interested in physical education, youth sport, community sport, and coaching. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge in biomechanics, anatomy and physiology, psychology of sport, physical activity, health and wellbeing, and pedagogy, alongside developing academic and personal skills. They also explore social issues in sport, including inclusion, diversity, and policy. The second year focuses on applying theoretical knowledge through modules in research methods, data analysis, life course physical activity, policy and practice in sport and physical education, coaching individuals, and video production for social issues in sport. Students develop transferable skills, including performance analysis, motivational strategies, and understanding of social and psychological factors influencing participation. The final year emphasizes professional development, employability, advanced research methods, and individual projects, allowing students to undertake an original research project in their chosen area of sport, health, and exercise sciences. Optional modules cover micro-level policy analysis, critical issues in sport, team coaching, and critical pedagogy, encouraging students to critically examine contemporary challenges in sport, education, and coaching. The program integrates practical, theoretical, and research-based learning to prepare graduates for careers in sport, health, education, and coaching industries.
