COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology BSc at Brunel University provides students with a comprehensive understanding of human thought, behaviour, and emotion, combining foundational theory with practical research skills. In the first year, students gain knowledge in areas such as brain and cognition, learning and perception, social and community psychology, and clinical psychology, while developing essential research, data analysis, and academic skills. Year two builds on this foundation with modules in developmental psychology, cognitive neuroscience, social psychology and individual differences, and qualitative and quantitative research methods, enabling students to apply psychological theory to real-world contexts and critically evaluate evidence. In the final year, students complete an independent dissertation, demonstrating their ability to conduct rigorous research, analyse data, and communicate findings. Optional modules allow exploration of specialised topics, including evolutionary psychology, cross-cultural psychology, animal behaviour, personality and close relationships, human sexual diversity, disorders of perception and movement control, psychology of religion, psychology of social media, drugs, hormones and the brain, and mindfulness. Across the course, students develop a deep understanding of the biological, cognitive, social, and cultural factors influencing behaviour, as well as practical skills in research design, data analysis, and applied psychology. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in research, clinical, health, and applied psychology, as well as further study in related fields.
