COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology in Sport, Health and Exercise BSc at Brunel University offers an in-depth exploration of the relationship between the mind, body, and physical activity, preparing students for careers in sport, exercise, and health psychology. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge in brain and cognition, learning and perception, social and community psychology, and the psychology of sport and exercise, alongside essential research, data analysis, and academic skills. They also gain an understanding of health and wellbeing through physical activity and the theoretical and methodological approaches to promoting active lifestyles. In the second year, the focus expands to cognitive neuroscience, developmental psychology, physical activity and wellbeing across the lifespan, and qualitative and quantitative research methods, equipping students to apply theory to real-world contexts and conduct independent research projects. The third year emphasizes advanced topics, including social psychology, individual differences, applied sport and exercise psychology, and issues in health and wellbeing, alongside the final year project, which allows students to carry out independent research. Optional modules provide further specialization in areas such as cross-cultural psychology, animal behaviour, drugs and the brain, mindfulness, and the psychology of social media. The course combines theoretical knowledge, practical application, and research skills, producing graduates prepared for professional practice, research, or further study in psychology-related fields.
