COURSE CURRICULUM

The Politics BSc at Brunel University provides a comprehensive study of political systems, institutions, and ideas, combining theoretical knowledge with practical analysis. In the first year, students gain an understanding of public policy, comparative politics, American politics, and political thought, while also exploring issues such as race, multiculturalism, and the social dynamics of Global London. Year two develops students’ research skills and analytical abilities through modules in quantitative political science, elections, parties and voting behaviour, and the design of research projects, alongside optional topics such as climate politics, gender and feminism, national security intelligence, and social welfare. In the final year, students focus on advanced research skills and complete a dissertation, allowing independent exploration of a chosen topic. Optional modules include applied quantitative methods, crisis and society, European Union politics, Marxist political economy, public policy analysis, media and politics in America, parliamentary studies, psychogeography, terrorism and counterterrorism, and the Arab-Israeli conflict, giving students the opportunity to deepen their expertise in specialized areas. Across all years, the course encourages critical engagement with political theory, empirical evidence, and contemporary debates, preparing graduates for careers in government, intelligence, international organisations, law, consultancy, media, and other sectors that require a strong understanding of political processes and analytical thinking.
