COURSE CURRICULUM

The Politics and Sociology BSc at Brunel University combines the study of political systems with sociological perspectives to provide a comprehensive understanding of society and governance. In the first year, students explore core concepts such as public policy, key sociological theories, race and multiculturalism in Britain, global sociology, and urban and cultural dynamics in London. These modules develop critical thinking, analytical skills, and a foundation for understanding social and political interactions. In the second year, optional modules allow students to specialise in areas such as climate politics, global migration, digital culture, elections, social welfare, national security, gender and feminism, and the role of media in society. Research skills are further developed in preparation for the final year dissertation. In the third year, students focus on advanced research skills and the dissertation, while optional modules offer deeper exploration of topics including crisis and society, European Union politics, social change in cities, social media, public policy analysis, global conflicts, and social reproduction. The program equips students with the ability to critically evaluate political processes, social structures, and cultural practices, and to apply theoretical knowledge to practical contexts. Graduates gain versatile skills suitable for careers in government, public policy, social research, media, international organisations, and other sectors where understanding society and politics is essential.
