COURSE CURRICULUM

The Politics and History BSc at Brunel University provides students with a comprehensive understanding of both disciplines, exploring how historical events shape political systems and contemporary issues. In the first year, students study modern European history, British politics, political thought, comparative politics, race and multiculturalism, and the social environment of London, developing critical analysis and research skills. The second year focuses on quantitative political science, research methods, historiography, elections and party politics, the First World War, and optional modules covering topics such as climate politics, colonialism, gender and civil rights, and global racism, enabling students to deepen their understanding of political and historical processes and their practical implications. In the third year, students complete a dissertation and advanced research modules, while optional modules allow further exploration of specialized topics such as the European Union, fascist Italy, apartheid in South Africa, terrorism, public policy, American politics, and social theory. The program encourages critical thinking, independent research, and the ability to analyse complex social, political, and historical phenomena. Graduates gain the skills to pursue careers in government, civil service, intelligence, law, media, NGOs, and international organisations, equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical analytical expertise in politics and history.
