COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physiotherapy BSc at Brunel University provides students with a comprehensive education combining theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and extensive clinical experience to prepare them for professional practice. In the first year, students study foundational subjects such as anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, rehabilitation principles, musculoskeletal and respiratory systems, and person-centred healthcare, alongside developing professional standards and leadership skills. They also gain initial practical experience through simulated placements and supervised practice. In the second year, students build on these foundations with advanced study of musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular, and rehabilitation physiotherapy, along with research methods and mandatory clinical training. They undertake two clinical placements, applying theoretical knowledge in real-world settings, developing clinical reasoning, professional communication, and leadership skills. The third year focuses on critical care, health across the lifespan, and preparation for professional practice, including leadership, workforce development, and career planning. Students complete three further practice placements, increasing autonomy and exposure to diverse clinical specialities while undertaking a research proposal to develop evidence-based practice skills. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on integrating theory with practical application, developing assessment and treatment skills, and fostering a person-centred approach. Graduates emerge as competent, confident, and employable physiotherapists, ready to meet complex healthcare needs across a range of settings.
