COURSE CURRICULUM

The Occupational Therapy BSc at Brunel University is designed to prepare students to help people overcome barriers to meaningful activities caused by physical, mental, or social challenges. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge in occupational therapy, including professional practice, theory, and occupational science, while gaining practical experience through simulated and supervised placements. Modules focus on working with older adults and adults of working age, alongside developing skills in evidence-based practice and research. In the second year, students build on these skills with an emphasis on collaboration, group and community work, and supporting children and young people. They also undertake a 12-week professional placement to apply their knowledge in real-world settings, working with clients, carers, and colleagues. The third year develops leadership, entrepreneurial skills, and career readiness, with opportunities to explore specialised practice areas and complete a research project. A final 12-week placement allows students to demonstrate their competencies and take responsibility for small service development projects. Across the course, students engage in volunteering and professional reflection, integrating theory with practical experience. The program equips graduates with the professional knowledge, practical skills, and research understanding necessary to become effective, reflective, and innovative occupational therapists ready to make a meaningful impact on individuals and communities.
