COURSE CURRICULUM

The Nursing (Child Health) BSc at Brunel University is designed to prepare students for a professional career in paediatric nursing, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to care for infants, children, and young people in diverse healthcare settings. In the first year, students develop foundational skills in nursing practice, health and wellbeing, human sciences, and research methods, gaining a strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and the principles of safe, person-centred care. Year two builds on this foundation with a focus on child-specific nursing, including assessing and planning care, engaging with families and communities, and understanding the role of community children’s nurses in public health and reducing health inequalities. Students also develop competence in pharmacology, medicines management, and evidence-based practice to support children with common physical and mental health conditions. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through advanced practice placements, preparing them to care for children with complex needs and to work independently as part of an interdisciplinary team. Modules in research, skills for registration, and transition to registered nurse ensure students are ready to lead, manage, and deliver high-quality, safe, and effective nursing care. Graduates are fully prepared for professional registration and a rewarding career in paediatric nursing.
