COURSE CURRICULUM

The Life Sciences BSc at Brunel offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary curriculum designed to equip students with a deep understanding of biological, environmental, psychological, and sport sciences. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge in cell biology, genetics, microbiology, human anatomy and physiology, ecology, cognition, and biochemistry, alongside essential skills in experimental design, bioinformatics, and scientific communication. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced modules in molecular and cell biology, analytical biochemistry, bioinformatics, genetics, human health, immunology, microbiology, climate change, cognitive and developmental psychology, ecosystems, and sustainable development, while also supporting career planning and research skill development. The final year allows students to undertake an independent research project, applying the theoretical and practical knowledge gained throughout the degree. Optional modules provide opportunities to specialize further in areas such as applied sport and exercise psychology, cancer biology, gene therapies, genomic medicine, molecular pharmacology, microbial pathogenesis, medical immunology, and climate solutions. The program emphasizes critical thinking, data analysis, ethical considerations, and interdisciplinary approaches, preparing graduates for careers in research, healthcare, environmental management, sport and exercise science, and related fields, while fostering practical, analytical, and transferable skills essential for the modern workforce.
