COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics and Business Finance BSc at Brunel University provides students with a comprehensive foundation in economics, finance, and quantitative analysis, preparing them for careers in financial services, consultancy, and policy-making. In the first year, students gain essential knowledge in mathematics for economics and finance, microeconomics, macroeconomics, financial markets, financial accounting, and statistics, building the quantitative and analytical skills necessary for further study. In the second year, the curriculum develops further with modules in corporate finance, corporate investment, intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics, money and banking, and monetary economics, alongside optional courses in econometrics, quantitative methods, and mathematical economics, enabling students to apply theory to practical and real-world economic problems. The final year offers a wide range of optional advanced modules, including applied research in economics, banking, and finance, financial theory and corporate policy, financial engineering, risk management, fixed income markets, behavioural finance, international finance, game theory, development economics, econometrics, public economics, environmental and natural resource economics, and the economics of information. Students gain practical research skills, apply quantitative methods to real-world datasets, and develop an understanding of policy, corporate strategy, and international finance. The program equips graduates with the knowledge, analytical capabilities, and practical skills to pursue careers in finance, banking, policy advisory, consultancy, and economic research.
