COURSE CURRICULUM

Brunel’s Computer Science BSc program is structured to provide students with a strong foundation in computing, programming, and software development while offering flexibility to specialise in areas such as artificial intelligence, digital media and games, network computing, software engineering, human-computer interaction, project management, or cybersecurity. In the first year, students develop essential skills through modules on data and information, introductory programming, logic and computation, information systems and organisations, and programming applications, alongside a group project that integrates these skills in a practical context. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced study in algorithms, networks and operating systems, software development and management, usability engineering, and a group project requiring detailed analysis, design, coding, and integration. In the final year, students complete a major individual project and study advanced topics in computer science, allowing them to demonstrate problem-solving, independent research, and analytical skills. Optional modules provide opportunities to specialise in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, digital media and games, network computing, software engineering, human-computer interaction, software project management, or cybersecurity. Throughout the degree, students gain experience in team-based projects, system implementation, software maintenance, and reflective project management, preparing them for careers in a wide range of computing and technology roles.
