COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Science (Digital Media and Games) BSc at Brunel provides students with a strong foundation in programming, data management, and computational problem-solving, while gradually allowing specialisation in digital media, gaming, or related areas. In the first year, students develop basic programming skills, learn to handle and analyse data, understand information systems, and apply logical and computational thinking to solve practical problems. Group projects help integrate these skills and build confidence in technical abilities. In the second year, students deepen their knowledge through software development and management, usability engineering, algorithms, networks, and operating systems, while participating in team-based projects that simulate real-world tasks and require analysis, design, coding, and communication of results. The final year focuses on independent learning through a major project, exploring advanced topics in computer science, and optional modules such as digital media and games, artificial intelligence, network computing, software engineering, human-computer interaction, project management, and cybersecurity. Students gain practical experience in developing and testing software, understanding system architectures, and managing projects creatively and professionally. The course emphasises reflective practice, teamwork, and problem-solving, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for careers in software development, gaming, and digital media industries, with opportunities for industry placements to enhance employability and professional skills.
