COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) BSc at Brunel provides students with a comprehensive understanding of computer science principles alongside specialised knowledge in artificial intelligence. In the first year, students develop foundational skills in programming, data handling, information systems, logic, and computational problem-solving through a combination of theoretical learning and practical group projects. In the second year, the focus shifts to advanced software development, usability engineering, algorithms, networks, and operating systems, with group projects integrating technical, analytical, and programming skills to solve real-world problems. Students gain experience in software design, development methodologies, and project management, building a strong foundation for independent work. In the final year, the program culminates in an individual project, allowing students to apply analytical, research, and problem-solving skills to a substantial AI or computing challenge. Advanced topics in computer science and a dedicated artificial intelligence module provide exposure to contemporary and debatable issues, developing critical thinking and evaluation skills. Optional modules such as digital media and games, network computing, software engineering, human-computer interaction, software project management, and cybersecurity allow students to tailor their learning to specific interests. Across all years, project-based learning fosters practical experience, teamwork, technical competence, and the ability to develop innovative solutions, preparing graduates for careers in AI, software development, and technology-driven industries.
