COURSE CURRICULUM

The Business Computing (Social Media) BSc (Hons) program at Brunel equips students with the skills to understand and utilise social media and information systems in contemporary business environments. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge in data and information management, introductory programming, logic and computation, information systems, and practical programming applications, culminating in a group project that integrates these skills and builds technical confidence. The second year focuses on more advanced topics, including software development and management, usability engineering, business analysis and process modelling, and understanding digital societies. Students apply these skills in a Level 5 group project, developing technical solutions and producing detailed analyses and designs, preparing them for real-world challenges. In the final year, students undertake a Business Computing Final Year Project, applying analytical and problem-solving skills independently. Core modules include Advanced Topics in Business Computing and Social Media, where students explore the design, evaluation, and practical use of social media to address social, organisational, economic, and technical issues. Optional modules, such as eBusiness, Human-Computer Interaction, Cybersecurity, and Software Project Management, allow students to further specialise according to their interests. The course blends theoretical understanding with practical experience, fostering critical thinking, technical proficiency, and the ability to adapt information systems to organisational and technological changes.
