COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biomedical Sciences BSc (Hons) at Brunel provides a comprehensive study of the human body, its cellular and molecular functions, and the biological basis of health and disease. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge in cell biology, human anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry, along with research, experimental design, and career skills. Year two deepens understanding with modules in molecular and cell biology, genetics, genomics, human pathology, and immunology, while developing advanced laboratory and data analysis skills and professional competencies in career planning and entrepreneurship. Optional modules allow students to explore areas such as analytical biochemistry, developmental genetics, stem cell biology, medical microbiology, and bioinformatics. The final year emphasizes independent research through the final year project and provides opportunities to study specialized topics including cancer biology, cellular pathologies, endocrine disorders, gene therapy, genomic medicine, medical biochemistry, immunology, microbial pathogenesis, molecular pharmacology, toxicology, and epidemiology. Throughout the program, students acquire practical laboratory experience, develop critical thinking and analytical skills, and engage with cutting-edge research techniques. The course equips graduates with a broad scientific understanding, technical expertise, and transferable skills, preparing them for careers in healthcare, research, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or for further postgraduate study, while ensuring professional recognition and integration into the biomedical sector.
