COURSE CURRICULUM

The Anthropology and Sociology BSc offers a comprehensive study across three years, blending core theoretical foundations with extensive optional specialisms. In Year 1, students are introduced to the fundamentals of social anthropology and sociology through modules such as Anthropology in the World, Beliefs and Ways of Thinking, Ethnographic Research Methods, Key Ideas in Sociology, Power, Inequality and Society, and Global London. These modules develop an understanding of cultural diversity, belief systems, research design, and social structures. Year 2 deepens knowledge with compulsory modules on Ethnicity, Migration and Identity and Gender, Sexuality and Feminism, while a wide range of optional modules allows students to tailor their interests, covering areas such as global health, digital culture, colonialism, education, media, international development, psychological anthropology, everyday life, and war and humanitarianism. Students also build advanced research skills and engage in practical methods training. In Year 3, all students complete a dissertation supported by Advanced Research Skills for Anthropology, alongside a large selection of optional modules that include topics such as urban change, global migration, media and social movements, medical anthropology, sustainability, criminology, crisis and society, religion and power, and psychosocial perspectives on violence. Overall, the degree encourages independent research, critical thinking, and applied understanding of contemporary global issues.
