COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Engineering BEng at Brunel University provides students with a comprehensive foundation in the principles and applications of mechanical engineering across three years of study. In the first year, students build essential knowledge in engineering mathematics, programming, mechanics, thermodynamics, materials science, energy systems, and engineering practice, developing problem-solving, analytical, and practical skills. Year two deepens understanding through modules in dynamics of machines, fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, thermodynamics, manufacturing processes, computer-aided design, and engineering business, while offering hands-on experience through team-based design projects that encourage creativity, initiative, and application of engineering theory. In the final year, students advance their expertise in applied fluid mechanics, mechatronics and control systems, mechanical structures, and engineering design, with opportunities to explore artificial intelligence applications in engineering. The course culminates in a major individual project where students plan, research, and execute a substantial engineering project, integrating technical knowledge with critical thinking and project management skills. Sustainable engineering management and practice is also emphasised, providing awareness of environmental, quality, and health and safety regulations. Throughout the program, students develop both technical and professional competencies, preparing them for careers in industries such as automotive, aerospace, energy, manufacturing, and robotics, with the ability to tackle complex engineering challenges in a practical and responsible manner.
