COURSE CURRICULUM

The Electronic and Electrical Engineering (Computer Systems) BEng is designed to equip students with the technical expertise and practical skills required for careers in electronic and electrical engineering with a specialist focus on embedded and computer systems. The program provides a strong foundation in core engineering areas including design, structures, materials, fluid mechanics, electronics, mathematics and technical drawing, while offering advanced knowledge in embedded system design, reconfigurable computing and FPGA applications. Students learn to evaluate and balance scientific, engineering and economic trade-offs involved in system design and implementation, gaining experience using modern engineering software tools and working in well-equipped laboratories. By specialising in computer systems, students develop the ability to design and implement effective computing solutions tailored to real-world constraints. The course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), meeting the academic requirements for Incorporated Engineer status and enhancing professional recognition. Students may choose to complete a one-year industry placement, providing valuable hands-on experience and improved employability. Throughout the course, opportunities are available to collaborate with industry and showcase final year projects at the Brunel Engineers+ event, demonstrating innovation and professional capability to employers. The degree prepares graduates for careers in embedded systems, electronics, computing, telecommunications and technology-driven industries.
