COURSE CURRICULUM

The Electronic and Electrical Engineering (Communication Systems) BEng at Brunel provides students with a comprehensive understanding of electronic and electrical engineering, focusing on digital communication systems. In the first year, students build strong foundations in engineering mathematics, programming, mechanics, systems, energy, and electronics, while developing essential skills such as problem-solving, project management, communication, teamwork, and professional awareness. They gain practical experience in designing and analysing basic analogue and digital electronic systems. The second year deepens knowledge in communication systems, electronic circuit design, signals and systems, microcontroller principles, and sustainability in electrical engineering, alongside opportunities to work on microcontroller-based group design projects and to understand business and professional practices in engineering. In the final year, students advance their skills through modules in advanced electronics, digital communication systems, engineering management, and quality engineering, and undertake an individual project that allows them to plan, execute, and present substantial engineering work. Optional modules provide opportunities to specialise further, including artificial intelligence systems, embedded systems, robotics and control systems, sustainable electrical energy systems, and applied artificial intelligence and machine learning. Across the program, students gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, preparing them for careers in engineering, digital communication, and technology-driven industries, and equipping them with the skills to design, implement, and evaluate modern engineering systems.
