COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Systems Engineering BEng degree provides students with a comprehensive foundation in both computing and engineering, preparing them to design and develop hardware and software for modern computer systems. In the first year, students are introduced to essential concepts such as data collection and analysis, digital devices and systems, computer architecture, programming, internet and network technologies, engineering practice, and mathematics for computer systems. These modules build a solid grounding in analytical, practical, and design skills while promoting professional development, problem solving, teamwork, and project management. In the second year, students advance their knowledge with modules on computer architecture and interfacing, object-oriented programming, data networks and cybersecurity, digital systems design, microcontroller principles, sensors and automation, and professional practices. The year includes a microcontroller group design project to develop technical, personal, and transferable skills. In the final year, students focus on advanced topics such as embedded systems, engineering management, and quality engineering, along with an individual project that fosters independent research, design, and problem-solving skills. Optional modules allow further specialisation in artificial intelligence systems, autonomous systems, the Internet of Things, and applied artificial intelligence and machine learning, equipping graduates with the expertise to tackle complex engineering challenges in computing and technology industries.
