COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Systems Engineering (Artificial Intelligence) BEng at Brunel is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to develop both hardware and software for advanced computing and AI systems. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in data management, digital devices, engineering principles, computer systems, programming, mathematics, networks, and internet technologies, alongside skills in problem solving, project management, communication, and teamwork. The second year focuses on more advanced concepts including computer architecture, digital systems design, microcontroller principles, object-oriented programming, data networks and cybersecurity, sensors and automation, and professional practices, while applying these skills in a microcontroller group design project. The third year emphasizes applied artificial intelligence and machine learning, embedded systems, engineering management, and quality engineering, alongside an individual project that allows students to demonstrate their ability to plan, research, develop, and communicate a substantial technical solution. Optional modules in the final year allow further specialization in artificial intelligence systems, autonomous systems, and the design of Internet of Things applications. Across the course, students gain practical experience through laboratory work, projects, and exposure to industry-standard tools and techniques, preparing them for careers in computing, robotics, automation, and digital services, or for further study in advanced AI and engineering disciplines.
