COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering (Environmental Engineering) BEng program provides a comprehensive education in the principles and practice of civil and environmental engineering, preparing students for careers that address contemporary and future societal challenges. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge in engineering mathematics, mechanics, systems, energy, and materials, alongside essential programming and engineering practice skills. They are introduced to civil engineering principles, ethics, sustainability, and conceptual design, with a focus on integrating environmental considerations and sustainable development goals. The second year builds on these fundamentals, covering construction materials, sustainability, surveying, fluid mechanics, hydraulics, soil mechanics, structural analysis, reinforced concrete design, and conceptual design projects. Students develop practical, technical, and teamwork skills while applying theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. The final year focuses on advanced topics including resilient infrastructure, transport, project planning, procurement, risk management, water and wastewater infrastructure, geo-energy engineering, environmental management, and pollution control. Students undertake integrated and individual design projects that foster analytical, problem-solving, and research skills, alongside professional competencies such as project management, communication, and sustainability assessment. Graduates leave with the ability to design, analyse, and manage civil and environmental engineering projects, addressing issues like climate change, sustainable cities, clean water, energy management, and environmental protection while contributing to global development goals.
