COURSE CURRICULUM

The Aerospace Engineering BEng (Hons) offers a structured three-year curriculum designed to build strong theoretical knowledge, technical ability, and practical engineering skills. In Year 1, students study core subjects including engineering mathematics, programming, mechanics, materials, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and engineering systems, while developing essential professional skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and project management through the Engineering Practice module. Year 2 advances mathematical modelling, programming, aerodynamics, aircraft design, solid mechanics, thermodynamics, machine dynamics, and manufacturing processes with CAD. Students also explore engineering business and project planning, preparing for placement opportunities. Optional modules introduce specialisations such as digital technologies or management perspectives. In Year 3, students undertake a major individual project that applies practical and analytical skills to a real engineering challenge. Advanced subjects include applied aerodynamics, aerospace structures, propulsion, mechatronics and control systems, space mechanics and airworthiness, flight mechanics, and flight testing and analysis. The curriculum emphasises experimental methods, computational tools such as CFD and FEA, and industry-relevant approaches including sustainable engineering management. Through hands-on laboratory work, simulation tools, and real flight testing experience, students gain a deep understanding of aerospace engineering principles and are well-prepared for careers in aircraft and spacecraft design, testing, and engineering industries.
