COURSE CURRICULUM

The Global Challenges BASc (Hons) at Brunel University provides a multidisciplinary approach to understanding and addressing urgent global issues. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge in social and natural sciences, exploring topics such as environmental change, ecology, inequality, and urban life, while gaining practical skills in computer-based design. Year two builds on this foundation, focusing on responses to global challenges and offering optional modules in areas such as climate politics, insurgency and counter-insurgency, migration, sustainable development, national security, and digital culture. Students also develop design and innovation skills, applying theoretical knowledge to practical projects. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through the Global Challenges in Practice module and a dissertation, allowing them to explore a specific issue in depth. Optional modules cover environmental management, media and social justice, sustainability projects, global migration, environmental justice, terrorism and counterterrorism, war and humanitarianism, and urban development. Across the program, students gain critical perspectives, analytical abilities, and practical experience, equipping them to work independently or collaboratively on complex problems. By the end of the degree, graduates are prepared to apply their knowledge to a wide range of professional, societal, and policy contexts, contributing to sustainable and equitable solutions for contemporary global challenges.
