COURSE CURRICULUM

The Music (Production) BA at Brunel University provides a comprehensive education in composition, performance, sound engineering, and music technology across three years. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through modules such as composing, ensemble performance, music theory, studio production, and historical study of musical genres. Professional development is integrated early, emphasizing collaboration, creative thinking, communication, and project management. In the second year, students advance their studio and production skills, exploring advanced sound editing, software and hardware tools, programming techniques, and creative studio practice. Modules focus on professional development, sound engineering theory, and the interaction between music and technology, while optional modules allow further specialization in composition, ensemble leadership, interdisciplinary collaboration, and twentieth- and twenty-first-century harmony. In the third year, students consolidate their learning through advanced sound engineering techniques, independent production projects, and studio production focused on live performance and sound art. Optional modules support portfolio development in composition, advanced performance projects, and in-depth study of technical and cultural aspects of music. Across all years, students engage with practical and theoretical dimensions of music, gain hands-on experience in professional-standard studios, and develop the technical, creative, and professional skills needed for careers in music production, performance, teaching, and related industries.
