COURSE CURRICULUM

The Games Design BA (Hons) at Brunel University provides students with the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to design and develop games across multiple disciplines, including design, art, audio, programming, and emerging technologies. In the first year, students are introduced to core principles of game design, game studies, visual asset creation, advanced prototyping, and sound fundamentals, developing foundational skills in both creative and technical aspects of game development. The second year expands on these skills through modules in game mechanics and economies, digital development methodologies, advanced asset creation, 3D modelling, game engine use, programming, music for games, UI/UX design, and world building, alongside further study of game theory and ludomusicology. Students gain practical experience through team projects and the development of genre-specific games. In the third year, students focus on advanced topics such as dynamic audio, game art, gaming technologies including VR and AR, socio-cultural studies, visual effects, and psychogeography, while undertaking major projects in areas like commercial, experimental, serious, traditional, or platform-specific games. Theory projects allow independent research in business, design, analysis, or community aspects of games. The program emphasizes professional practice, creative innovation, and portfolio development, preparing graduates to contribute effectively to the games industry or related creative fields.
