COURSE CURRICULUM

This BA program combines filmmaking and theatre to develop creative, technical, and performance skills across stage and screen. In Year 1, students learn the fundamentals of film production through The Craft of Filmmaking and develop practical and analytical performance skills in Performance Studies, while The Professional Self focuses on industry behaviours and professional development. Optional modules allow exploration of film analysis, technology and industry development, identity and representation, and practical theatre and acting training. In Year 2, Advanced Filmmaking and Performance Lab deepen production and performance practice, while optional modules offer pathways in specialist areas such as world cinema, filmmaking as activism, animation, adaptation, genres, and theoretical perspectives. Students can also explore industry insights and research skills. In Year 3, students create original theatre work and complete major independent projects through a Film Practice Dissertation and a Drama, Theatre and Performance Dissertation. Optional modules enable advanced study in areas including gender and sexuality, horror cinema, documentary and violence, anti-racism performance, acting and musical theatre, alongside work experience and professional preparation. Across the program, students gain hands-on experience, interdisciplinary understanding, and professional skills to prepare for careers in film, theatre, and the wider creative industries.
