COURSE CURRICULUM

The MRes in Sustainable Engineering requires students to complete a combination of core and optional modules totaling at least 140 credits. The core modules include Research Methods, worth 20 credits, and the MRes Thesis, which carries 120 credits and forms the central component of the program. The thesis allows students to conduct a substantial independent research project under the guidance of experienced supervisors, ensuring the development of advanced research skills and adherence to high academic standards. In addition to the core modules, students must complete at least 40 credits from a selection of optional modules, which provide opportunities to specialise in areas aligned with their research focus. The indicative optional modules include Control Engineering, Advanced Dynamics, and Advanced Systems Engineering, each worth 20 credits. These modules are designed to enhance technical expertise, support the research process, and strengthen students’ understanding of complex engineering systems. The combination of core and optional modules ensures a balance between structured learning in research methodologies and the freedom to explore specialised topics within sustainable engineering. This modular structure equips students with the knowledge, skills, and professional experience necessary to conduct independent research, engage critically with contemporary engineering challenges, and prepare for careers in academia, research, or industry.
