COURSE CURRICULUM

The MRes in Built Environment requires students to complete core and optional modules totaling at least 140 credits. The core modules consist of Research Practice, worth 20 credits, and the MRes Thesis, which carries 120 credits and forms the central component of the program. Students also select two 20-credit modules from the School’s existing MSc portfolio, drawn from four study streams: BIM and Digital Construction, Construction Project Management, Quantity Surveying, and Real Estate Management. These selections align students with the School’s research groups, facilitating early assignment of thesis supervision and access to specialized expertise. In addition to core modules, students must complete at least 40 credits from a range of optional modules designed to support their research focus and professional development. These include Innovation in Construction, Data Visualisation, Project Management Methods, Cost Management, Commercial Inspection and Reporting, Law and Practice, BIM Process and Practice, Advanced Quantification, Professional Practice, and Property Management. The combination of core and optional modules provides both structured learning in research methodologies and the opportunity to develop expertise in a chosen area of the built environment. This modular structure ensures that students gain the skills, knowledge, and support necessary to conduct independent research, engage with contemporary industry practices, and prepare for careers in academia, research, or the built environment sector.
