COURSE CURRICULUM
The Law course is structured over three years, progressing from foundational knowledge to advanced, specialized study. In Year 1, students undertake five core modules totaling 100 credits. These include Legal Systems, Foundations in Professional Skills, Legal Thinking, Law of Tort, and Contract Law. Together, these modules introduce the basics of legal systems, key transferable academic skills, and essential legal principles such as negligence and contract formation. Students also choose one optional module from areas such as Consumer and Agency Law, US Legal Studies, Human Rights, Criminal Justice Procedure, or Mooting, offering opportunities to explore global legal systems and develop advocacy skills. Year 2 focuses on applying legal theory in practice through core modules including Land Law and Property Practice, Criminal Law, Professional Skills, Constitutional and Administrative Law, and Business Law, again totaling 100 credits. These build on Year 1 content, introducing more complex areas such as conveyancing, corporate law, constitutional structures, and advanced criminal concepts. Optional modules in this year allow students to specialize in fields such as Dispute Resolution, Employment Law, Medical Law, Human Rights, or to undertake a placement or study abroad, enriching their understanding of legal practice and global perspectives. In the final year, students complete 80 core credits, studying Equity and Trusts and the Law of the European Union, and then selecting one 40-credit project-based module such as a Dissertation, Law in Practice, American Legal Practice, or The United Nations: Law and Practice. These are designed to foster independent research and critical thinking in real-world or simulated settings. In addition, students must choose at least 40 credits from a list of optional modules, such as Family Law, Equality Law, Intellectual Property, Evidence, or Advanced Mooting, allowing for tailored learning paths based on interests and career goals. This course structure ensures a comprehensive, layered education in both academic and applied legal study.
