COURSE CURRICULUM

This BSc Real Estate course is designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the built environment and property industry, gradually developing specialist skills and professional competencies across three years. In the first year, the course introduces fundamental concepts that underpin real estate, valuation, construction technology, and legal principles. Modules such as Introduction to the Built Environment and Introduction to Valuation offer insight into how political, economic, and legal forces influence development and property value. Simultaneously, students explore the structure of the English legal system and its significance within the built environment in the Law module. Introduction to Property Markets provides an essential overview of the real estate sector, exploring the economic and spatial dynamics of space and capital markets. Built Environment Technology 1 and Environmental and Materials Science further strengthen the technical foundation by introducing sustainable construction methods, material science, and the practical implications of environmental performance. Moving into the second year, the curriculum becomes more applied and analytical. Property Asset Management and Advanced Valuation Methods build upon year one knowledge, encouraging students to critically evaluate property assets and use advanced financial techniques in valuation. Data and Decision Making introduces research and data analysis methods, helping students examine broader societal and economic trends. Design and Development in the Built and Natural Environment enhances this by applying design thinking to real-life projects. Modules like Building Pathology and Property Law sharpen diagnostic and legal reasoning skills necessary for professional surveying and property management. In the final year, students refine their expertise and focus on professional practice. Modules such as Applied Valuation and Property Fund Management ensure readiness for roles in investment and fund management, while Property Marketing develops commercial awareness and communication strategies. The Professionalism and Citizenship module fosters ethical awareness and interdisciplinary collaboration. Finally, the Individual Honours Project allows students to undertake a substantial piece of independent research aligned with their career interests, demonstrating the ability to investigate, evaluate and present professional-level insights.
